Use your oven in the most effective, efficient way to save money and extend the life of your appliance.

OVEN BAKING - Problems with ovens, particularly baking, are usually mechanical adjustment, or improper use. It must be in good working order to function correctly:
- Thermostat in proper adjustment
- Range hood vent and ovens vent open, clear and working properly
- Door seals adjusted correctly
- Level racks inside oven for best baking result. Don't assume floor is level.
- Baking unlevel results in poor outcome of cakes and other batter items. Heat flow is not uniform and cooks unevenly.
- Preheating functions properly.
- Use appropriate bake pans for baking that are designed to bake items. Temperatures differ depending on the material. Baking products and recipes usually assume using standard weight aluminum baking pans. If other cooking dishes are used, temperature must normally be about twenty five degrees lower than called for to account for the cooking performance difference with glass or enamel. Also, browning can vary with different pan materials absorbtion and reflection of heat.
- Use Correct Size Cookie Sheets. They should be medium sized aluminum, centered in the oven and smaller than the ovens' square area - Allow two inches around the perimeter of the cookie sheet for heat to properly circulate. Too large restricts heat circulation, won't brown the top properly and may burn the bottoms. Cookie, biscuit and roll baking shouldn't be done in a baking pan with sides.
